Things cost pretty much the same as far as food, housing, etc go- but proportionally more of it is spent when your income is below a certain level. And when your income is below a certain level, you lose access to things that might help you in the long term- like retirement, health care, and REAL food. And you become prey for people and businesses who believe that poor= uneducated, ignorant, and desperate.
